The alpine ski table

When you have a picnic table that is left outside, the table and seat parts tend to rot after a while, especially if you live in an area where there tends to be a lot of rain or is damp. But while those parts rot away the frame actually stays in tact and this can be a bit of a waste.

The alpine ski table

But the people at Snow Shack have come up with an ingenious way of using all of those old recycled skis which may sound a bit over the top, but when you look at it, the finished item looks really smart and because skis are strong and laminated they are strong and easy to keep clean.

Because of the nature of the product, clearly the design and colouring is going to change slightly every now and then, but for $485 you will be getting a decent looking table for the garden which measures 30” x 60”.

Green Google? - Google is investing $125 Million in BrightSource Energy!

Green Google? - Google is investing $125 Million in BrightSource Energy!

Google (GOOG) just announced that they are investing $125 million in BrightSource Energy, a company that focuses on generating solar energy.

You never hear these things from Microsoft or any other big tech companies but it’s great to hear that Google is focusing on the brighter future for our earth.

I did notice Google.org, which is Google site dedicated to putting off some of their revenue for things like this.

Great stuff Googlers!

Today we are pleased to announce our participation in BrightSource Energy’s $115 million venture financing with a $10 million equity investment as part of Google’s RE<C initiative.

Solar thermal energy generation is one of the key emerging industries addressing the changing global climate and we are excited about both of our current investments in solar thermal technology — BrightSource Energy and eSolar.

In addition to making investments in renewable energy startups, we plan to make grants to support the research and development of enabling technologies to help the solar thermal industry achieve larger scale and lower costs. We believe that by supporting researchers and entrepreneurs taking different, ambitious approaches and risks to generate clean energy, we can help to accelerate progress and increase the collective economic value of these new clean energy industries.

Sony’s House Design of the Future

There are a lot of things left unanswered as far as our future is concerned and a lot of it has to do with where we will find ourselves in the course of time. One thing we have to note is that global warming and eco-friendly issues will be beside us all the way and with that in mind, we cannot help but think what companies such as Sony will have for us by that time.

Sony can help us get a glimpse of things to come and they are showing this to us with this video that gives us highlights of the future. Take a look at this video so that you will have an idea on whether to look forward to the future or simply keep on wondering what we have in a couple of years ahead of us.

Obesity and Food Linked to Global Warming

Obesity and Global Warming

Most people would never consider obesity or food as major contributors to global warming but apparently, the manner of producing them is really the one in the spotlight. To be able to consume food, they have to be made first. Sure we buy them from the nearby groceries and stores but before they get there, there is the due process of manufacturing them that is the real deal in determining if they are catering towards green standard practices.

Most of the issues here cover the areas of the use of energy and greenhouse gases to make those machineries function properly. Add them all together and you will understand why most people are contributing to this growing pain called global warming.

“Eighteen percent more food energy is required in many populations where there is a large prevalence of obesity,” he said, citing a 460-calorie increase in daily food intake for an obese individual. “There is a clear impact in terms of greenhouse gas emissions in order to grow that food.”

Wind Up Shaver

Like many battery powered things, there is always the risk that at the very moment that you need it the most, the battery is going to be flat or almost flat. This can be a very disappointing thing, especially with something like this shaver called the Wind N Go Freedom Shaver.

Wind Up Shaver

As it is a wind up device, the battery s always going to be ready for that nice clean cut shave, with no hassle of charging through a power socket? With all the inconvenience that is involved with that, but at just $46 this shaver would appear to be very good value, and remember there is no need for batteries or charging.
